Herbal tea and tea: what’s the difference?

The-Pur-Terroir-Infusao-Herbal-Tea-Herbal-Tea-or-Tea-difference

Herbal tea, by definition, is the process of infusing plants in boiling water in order to extract their active compounds, as well as the resulting liquid. Thus, we consider an herbal tea to be a drink made from, as the name implies, the infusion of aromatic plants or the leaves, flowers, fruits, bark, roots and seeds that derive from any edible plant.

Herbal teas are also called tisanes when they include two or more varieties of plants in their preparation.

What is tea?

We call “tea” the infusion made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis species, also known as Tea Plant or Camellia.

The processing of the plant’s leaves, namely the level of contact with oxygen (oxidation) determines the different types of tea, the main ones being: White Tea, Green Tea, Yellow Tea, Oolong Tea, Black Tea and Dark Tea.

Although colloquially all herbal teas and tisanes are referred to as tea, this term refers specifically to the infusion of Camellia sinensis’s leaves.

Main benefits of drinking an herbal tea

Herbal teas and tisanes have multiple benefits that help keep a healthy lifestyle, promoting an overall sense of well-being.

Depending on the plants used, there are several active compounds that can be obtained in a single herbal tea. When carefully produced and prepared, herbal teas and tisanes have a high concentration of essential oils and a high content of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.

Given the numerous varieties of aromatic plants that exist and the combinations we can make, it is possible to find the herbal teas that best suit each mood and that best correspond to the health benefits we aim at.

Find the right herbal tea for you by exploring, on our website, the different varieties of aromatic plants suitable for every mood and different health benefits.

A natural product, caffeine and theine free

The herbal tea is naturally free of caffeine and theine. It is, in this sense, different from tea – an infusion from Camellia sinensis’s leaves, which contains these two substances in its composition.

It is also a natural product, as it is a drink made from plants, flowers, fruits, bark or roots. Herbal teas and tisanes are also a dairy-free and gluten-free aromatic drink, suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
