A journey to the Innovation Cellar, through Soalheiro’s history

Soalheiro was born because there was a willingness to take risks. It was already the name of an agricultural parcel, due to the generous sun exposure, where, in 1974, the first continuous vineyard of Alvarinho was planted, in Melgaço. In 1982, the first brand of Alvarinho from Melgaço, Soalheiro, was born. ‘Clássico’ was just the beginning and, over the years, new wines were born. We were the first winery in Portugal with certification in Investigation, Development, and Innovation and, currently, at the Innovation Cellar, we continue to explore the versatility and limits of Alvarinho in our territory. 

The wine tasting begins with Soalheiro Espumante Bruto Alvarinho, the first Alvarinho sparkling wine, launched in 1995, an innovation that has become a tradition in Monção and Melgaço and in neighboring Galicia.   

The wine tasting continues with Soalheiro Granit, launched in 2015. With this wine we were pioneers in the valorization of high altitude vineyards in the territory, in search of a differentiated and mineral profile.  

The wine tasting ends with Soalheiro Mosto Flor, a wine made from the drops that flow from the Alvarinho grapes before the first pressing, an idea that came from our team and was launched in 2021, a tribute to everyone’s knowledge and contribution.
