Soalheiro Pé Franco and Soalheiro Reserva: two Alvarinho wines from Monção e Melgaço with structure and complexity, made to be enjoyed at the table.
Soalheiro Reserva Alvarinho: the grape and the oak in balance
It was born from an experiment in 1995, when Soalheiro was one of the first to bring Alvarinho together with French oak. The style we know today was defined in 2006. It ferments and ages for 12 months in French oak barrels, in contact with the fine lees. The result is a Vinho Verde DOC from Monção e Melgaço with a broad entry, body and elegance, where the wood complements the fruit without masking it. Excellent with oily fish, red meat, lamb, duck, game or mushroom dishes.
Soalheiro Pé Franco: an Alvarinho from ungrafted vines
“Pé franco” means ungrafted. This wine comes from vines planted around ten years ago without grafting, in the sandier soils of the Minho valley. It ferments for about two weeks in contact with the skins and finishes fermentation in barrel, with full bâtonnage. It has an intense, floral aroma, unusual for an Alvarinho, and a persistent palate, with more body and a slight astringency. Ideal with red meats and roasts.
